Parliament Winter Session: Minutes after the session began on Wednesday, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned amid opposition protests. The session in both the Houses will now be reconvened on Thursday, November 28.
Opposition members created ruckus in the Lok Sabha when Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Arun Govil was participating in the Question Hour in the House. Soon after the Lower House began its sitting at 11 am on Wednesday, November 27, Speaker Om Birla adjourned the Lok Sabha till 12 noon.
When the Lok Sabha reconvened in the afternoon, the protests returned again. Presiding Officer Dilip Saikia adjourned the session again for the whole day.
Congress and other opposition parties protested demanding a discussion on the Manipur violence and bribery allegations against the Adani Group. The India faction is demanding a JPC inquiry into the allegations against Adani Group.
A similar scene was seen in Rajya Sabha also. Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar requested members to have a constructive discussion before adjourning the House for the day.
Adani group denied the allegations
Earlier this month, Gautam Adani, one of the world’s richest men, and seven others were charged by US prosecutors over their alleged role in a $265 million scheme to bribe Indian government officials to secure power-supply deals. Fraud was alleged. Adani Group has denied all the allegations and described them as “baseless”.

Earlier in the day, Adani Group denied charges of bribery and violation of the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) against its chairman Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani and chief executive Vineet Jain in a case filed by the US Justice Department. (DOJ).
The company clarified that its chairmen Gautam Adani, Sagar Adani and Vineet Jain have not been charged under the FCPA, dismissing the recent claims as “false”.
Additionally, former Attorney General of India Mukul Rohatgi addressed the media along with Rajya Sabha MP and senior lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani and said that the allegations lack credible evidence and specifics.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government has listed 16 bills, including the Waqf Act Amendment Bill, for the session scheduled to run till December 20.
According to the bulletin of the Lok Sabha, five bills have been listed for introduction, consideration and passing, while 10 bills have been listed for consideration and passing.
