Federal National Guard members lack training to handle road crime and if they are sent to large American cities, can cause new problems, the New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tish said at a program at Midtown Manhattan on Monday. Testic comments come when Trump is threatening to send the National Guard soldiers to Chicago and New York after the police department of Washington, DC under federal control.
“One of the huge concerns that I have around this subject of deploying National Guards in New York City or big cities across the country, it is that it will introduce an amount of chaos and disorder and confusion that will be defended – nothing about the fact that as a lifelong new yorker, I am rebelling with the idea of my roads.
While the federal government has the right to handle the operation of DC’s Metropolitan Police Department, it does not have the ability to take equal action in New York or other major American cities, Tistch said. But Trump Federal National Guard can direct the soldiers to stand at the New York City Street corners or run through their huge metro system, he said.
Instead, Tisch would like to provide federal help in reducing guns in New York and takes more federal prosecutors on gun cases.
“Let’s focus on the correct type of partnership with the federal government,” Tish said. “The National Guard does not happen.”
According to NYPD data, this year the crime in New York is in all major categories, with the total reports a report of 4.5% through August. Through August, 489 shooting incidents were reported, which was a 19% decline from last year.
“We have found it,” Tish asked about keeping the city of New York safe. “We do not need or want the help of the federal government in this way.”
