West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said the state’s student credit card scheme has crossed a major milestone by approving over one lakh loan cases.

Banerjee said in a post on X that the major initiative, aimed at supporting higher education, allows students to avail loans up to maximum. At nominal interest rate of Rs 10 lakh, the entire interest subsidy will be borne by the state government.
“Happy to share that the number of approved cases under our Student Credit Card Scheme has crossed the historic mark of 1,00,000 today,” Banerjee said.
He said the scheme would continue to help “emerging talents” pursue their academic and career goals and he wished all the students the best for a “very prosperous future”.
“In this major scheme of our government, education loan up to maximum is provided to the students. Rs 10 lakh at a very nominal interest rate. The interest subvention/subsidy amount is completely borne by the State Government.
“This scheme will continue to help emerging talents reach their desired goals,” Banerjee said.
The Student Credit Card Scheme was launched in 2021 to make education more accessible by reducing the financial burden on students wishing to study in India or abroad.
