New Delhi. The government is making several efforts to end the VIP culture in the country. On the roads of India, you will usually find some influential people who flout traffic rules and regulations on the basis of their VIP status. Such drivers are adept at escaping challan or fine by showing their connection with some leader or minister. But now Noida Police is dealing with such people strictly.
To improve road safety rules, Noida Police conducted a checking campaign for 15 days between June 11 and June 25. In this campaign, more than 5400 vehicles found violating traffic rules were fined. In this, the police have also imposed fines on those people who claimed to be related to some VIP or the other.
VIP status is being misused
The drive, led by DCP (traffic) Anil Kumar Yadav, was aimed at curbing violations such as unauthorised use of red and blue lights, hooter/sirens and police colours on vehicles. It fined vehicles displaying caste and community stickers incorrectly as well as vehicles with wrong markings of ‘UP Government’ and ‘Government of India’, except contract vehicles. According to the police, many violators misuse their VIP status to avoid challans.
These vehicles were confiscated
In its crackdown, the police registered 1,604 cases of unauthorised use of hooter, siren and red/blue lights. In addition, 371 challans were issued for misuse of police colours on vehicles. In addition, according to PTI, 3,430 vehicles were found to have caste and community stickers or unauthorised government insignia.
The police said, “In total, the campaign resulted in action being taken against 5,405 vehicles for various traffic offences.” DCP Yadav said similar campaigns will be conducted in the future to ensure road discipline and safety of commuters.
