Dr. Kumar shared his work on fast on X on 12 September. He said: “Which of the two-eating windows should practice 16: 8 intermittent fasting (16-hour fast, and 8-hour dining window) for one of the food windows?

Benefits of first eating (8 AM-4 PM)

Listing the benefits of first food (8 AM-4 PM dining window), Dr. Kumar said:

1. Glycemic control with better insulin sensitivity/ first eating windows.

2. Low fasting glucose in some studies for eTre (early time-related food).

3. Overweight and fat loss in some tests.

4. Better effects on diastolic blood pressure in some studies with earlier windows.

5. Other metabolic markers (inflammation, microbiome variety, etc.) improve more on eating early instead of eating late.

He also highlighted that ‘the data does not clearly show (or where the results are mixed), and shared:

1. All studies do not find major differences between early vs. later windows. Sometimes weight is reduced.

2. The effects on lipids (cholesterol, LDL etc.) are more inconsistent.

3. Long -term adherence, fats vs. lean mass effects, quality of life, and how chronotypes (morning person vs. evening) interact, require more research.
