(Bloomberg) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu planned to recognize a Palestinian kingdom with Emmanuel Macron on the French President’s plan and encourage other countries to do the same.
A Palestinian kingdom would be “a stronghold of Iranian terrorism”, Netanyahu said on a call with Macron on Tuesday, according to a statement by the Israeli leader. “The Prime Minister expressed fierce opposition to the establishment of a Palestinian kingdom, and said it would be a major award for terrorism.”
Macron has stated that France may recognize the Palestinian state such as to help end the war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas at a United Nations conference in early June.
The dispute shows the growing tension between Israel and some of its close colleagues in the 18 -month war, which has destroyed Gaza a lot.
France will be the first group of seven members for such a step. The choice of the UK and the US formally supports a two-state solution for the Israeli-Pilstinian conflict, but only after interaction between the sides.
“I have made my situation very clear,” Macron said in a statement after the call. He told Netanyahu that “Israel’s safety interests and all others in the region were” paramounts, and that it was “a complete priority” for Hamas to continue and release all the hostages.
In an X post last week, Macron said that France wants “a Palestinian kingdom without Hamas”.
Palestinians hope that a nation will eventually be built in a large area of Gaza and West Bank, with more than 5 million people simultaneously.
Decades of international peace efforts have hinged the idea of the Palestinian state in areas, which Israel caught in a six -day war of 1967. The final major talks stopped in 2014.
The ruling alliance of Netanyahu, the most right in the history of Israel, is strongly against a Palestinian kingdom, and elections suggest that most of Israel are the people of Israel.
The protest within Israel has increased since the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, which triggered the war in Gaza. The Iran -backed group killed 1,200 people and took around 250 hostage. According to Gaza’s Hamas-Interested Health Ministry, more than 51,000 people have been killed since Israel started its retaliation.
In July last year, the Israeli Parliament passed a resolution opposing the establishment of a Palestinian kingdom, warning that it could serve as a basis for terrorist groups. Some 68 of the 120 members of the cassett supported the measurement.
About three -fourth of the UN members recognize the state of Palestinian. Spain, Norway and Ireland did so last year, inspiring Israel to remember their ambassadors in all three countries.
Hamas, as a terrorist organization nominated in most parts of the west including the US, asks for the destruction of Israel. In 2005, Israel captured Gaza after leaving the region. The Palestinian Authority, a more liberal group, controls Palestinians in the West Bank.
The Israeli government has long used extensive military and safety control over West Bank and Gaza.
