BJP national president JP Nadda on Sunday met the family of 23-year-old college student Neha Hiremath, who was recently stabbed to death, and consoled them. She was the daughter of Congress councilor Niranjan Hiremath.
During his visit, the BJP chief demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into Neha’s murder, “if the Karnataka police is unable to investigate the case”.
Neha was stabbed to death by her former classmate at her college campus in Dharwad, Karnataka on April 18, leading to widespread protests across the state.
Addressing reporters, Nadda said, “I express my condolences to the family and come here to stand with them in this hour of grief.”
He also said that his murder is a heart-wrenching incident.
Objecting to the statements of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G Parameshwara, Nadda requested the Karnataka government to hand over the case to the CBI, saying it would “influence and weaken” the investigation.
He said, “If the state government wants, it can hand over the case to CBI and BJP will cooperate so that this innocent girl gets justice, humanity gets justice and such incidents do not happen again in future…even Her father has also demanded a CBI inquiry. He does not trust the state police and wants the investigation into his daughter’s murder to be handed over to the CBI.
Karnataka State Women’s Commission Chairperson Nagalakshmi Choudhary also visited Neha’s residence and assured justice to her family.
Expressing condolences to her family, he said that Neha’s death should not be politicized for personal gain and if it is done then it would be like insulting the daughter of this earth.

If we are really talking about her If I’m concerned, we all have to do that.” Strongly support and allow the police to conduct an independent investigation and we need to get justice for Neha as soon as possible.”
This incident turned into a political conflict. While the ruling Congress has tried to present it as an “incident from an individual perspective”, the BJP has cast doubt on “love jihad” and said it points to the “deterioration of law and order” in Karnataka.
