The MP High Court has directed the NTA to operate the NEET-UG Retests for those candidates who faced power cuts, as they were wrongly deprived despite their own faults.

The MP High Court ordered the NEET-OG 2025 Retests for 75 students affected by the power outage in the examination hall.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to re-examine the NEET-UG for the candidates, which were affected by the power outage at the examination centers, given that these students were kept in loss through their own faults.
Citing Article 14 of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees equality before the law, the court ruled in favor of the petitioners who gave relief.
The National Eligibility-cum-entry Test (NEET-UG) for graduate medical entry was held on 4 May, when some areas in Madhya Pradesh experienced electricity disruption due to weather conditions.
Justice Subodh Abhikar of Indore Bench reserved the verdict after hearing arguments from all parties on petitions filed by several NEET-UG candidates last month.
Speaking to PTI on Tuesday, the petitioners’ counsel, Mridul Bhatnagar said that on June 23, the High Court order would benefit 75 students who appeared for NEET-UG in the centers of Indore and Ujjain.
The court noticed that the affected candidates were kept in harm not due to their own actions, but beyond their control. It was noted that the power outage did not affect all the candidates equally – even within the same center – some students were seated in areas with sufficient natural lighting, while others struggled without it.
The NTA has been instructed to conduct the re -examination for these candidates as soon as possible and only announce the results based on the Retest Score. The court stressed that only marks obtained in the examination should be used for ranking.

The court specified, “It has been clarified that persons who have filed a petition after the announcement of the provisional answer key, ie, June 3, 2025, would not be entitled to the benefits of this order,” the court specified.
The petitioners had argued that their performance was interrupted due to lack of electricity during the examination and they should be given another opportunity.
Representing the NTA, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta mentioned a committee report stating that the backup was at most centers and the power supply was immediately restored on complaints in the electricity board.
Mehta also presented that measures such as candles, emergency lights, inverters and other backup systems were made available at examination sites.
