Last update:
JNU has reduced tuition fees by 80% to promote global enrollment for foreign students and attract learners from SAARC, Africa and Latin America.

JNU slashed up up to 80% tuition fees for international students, which aims to promote global enrollment.
To promote international entry and increase its global reputation, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has announced a major deduction in tuition fees for foreign students. Starting from this academic year, international students will pay much low fee – depending on the course and the basic field of the student, with a deduction of 33% to 80%.
Students from SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries, Africa and Latin America have been offered the biggest fee deduction. The purpose of these cuts is to make JNU more cheap for students from developing countries.
For example, students from Africa and Latin America will now pay just $ 300 per semester for humanities courses – a steep fall from the earlier fee of $ 1,500. Science students of these fields will pay $ 400 per semester below $ 1,900 per semester – a total decrease of about 80%.
Students from SAARC countries will also benefit from adequate fee deduction. Those enrolled in humanities will now pay $ 200 instead of $ 700 – 71% decrease. For science courses, the fee has fallen from $ 700 to $ 700 to $ 300 to fall from $ 700 to $ 300.
For students from West Asian countries, the revised fees are $ 500 (below $ 1,500) for humanities and $ 600 (below $ 1,900) for science. Meanwhile, for students from all other countries, semester fees have been brought to $ 1,000 for humanities and $ 1,250 for science. All international students will also have to pay a one -time registration fee of $ 500.
The move has come in recent years amid a significant decline in international student enrollment in JNU. In 2020–21, the university had 152 foreign students. But by 2023–24, the number had fallen rapidly to 51. The number of countries sending students to JNU also fell from 14 to 8. Many foreign students pointed to the high cost of tuition as a major reason for this decline.
