NEET PG 2024: The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear tomorrow, August 9, a petition seeking postponement of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2024 exam scheduled to be held on August 11.
The Supreme Court will review the petition filed by Vishal Soren just two days before the exam date. The petition states that many NEET PG candidates appearing for the exam have been allotted cities which are extremely inconvenient for them to reach, reports Live Law.
“More than two lakh students are scheduled to appear for the exam. The exam is scheduled to be conducted in 185 cities, due to which train tickets are not available and air fares are also increasing, making it nearly impossible for a large number of students to reach their exam centres,” Live Law reported citing the petition.
The petitioner alleged that it has become very difficult for students to make their travel arrangements in such a short time as information about specific centres will be released along with the admit cards today. Meanwhile, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) informed candidates about the allocation of exam cities through email on July 31. These exam cities were later revised for some candidates, citing the addition of new centres and the implementation of a two-shift system as measures to ensure the safety of students.
Apart from postponing the exam date, the petitioner sought disclosure of the “normalisation formula” of the four sets of question papers.
The NEET PG exam was earlier scheduled to be held on June 23, but the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) postponed it as a precautionary measure amid the NEET UG controversy. The 3 hour 30 minute exam will be held in two shifts in computer-based test mode.
Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvananthapuram and senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor highlighted the issue and said that we should be able to authorise adequate number of examination centres in every state so that candidates can easily reach and take the exam from their place of education or residence.

The current weather, challenges with ticket availability, lack of affordable accommodation and safety concerns are putting these doctors in an untenable situation,” he said on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
