The minister highlighted that the primary goal of NCERT is to ensure that every student in India has access to high quality textbooks at very cheap prices.

Since 2024, Jayant Chaudhary has been seized more than 4.7 lakh pirated NCERT textbooks nationwide, according to Jayant Chaudhary’s written response to education at the Shiksha Sabha in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. He said that according to a PTI report, piracy incidents related to NCERT textbooks from different regions across the country have been reported.
“Examples of theft of NCERT textbooks have been obtained from different parts of the country. During 2024 and 2025 years, about 4.71 lakh pirated copies of NCERT textbooks have been seized in various tasks in different states. Piracy is mainly operated by the commercial purposes of dishonest elements,” said the Chaudhary.
He said, “The main objective of NCERT is to provide quality textbooks to the last student across the country at a very cheap price, based on no-profit and no-loss,” he said.
Efforts to fight theft
The Minister of State said that NCERT conducted 29 raids in the last one year, which was involved in the premises involved in the production and sales of fake books and in the illegal printing of NCERT watermark paper. These operations resulted in seizure of more than Rs 20 crore stock and machinery.
To deal with piracy, NCERT has adopted several active measures, including:
– Timely printing and distribution of textbooks
– Increased quality of paper and printing using modern machinery
-Promotion of online textbook sales through E-commerce platforms
– Use of technology developed by IIT Kanpur
Additionally, NCERT has tested a technology-based anti-piresi system developed and patented by IIT Kanpur on a million class 6 books.
“NCERT has taken several active measures to hit the very root of the piracy business, in which the price reduction of 20 percent of the NCERT textbooks, timely printing of NCERT textbooks, better quality of printing, paper and printing (using modern machines), e-commerce platforms have promoted online sales of textbooks through e-commerce platforms. Chaudhary said.
