Speaker Insights:
HMJ Hima Kohli Emphasizing the urgency of addressing climate change, it said, “The increasing frequency of extreme weather events, melting glaciers, rising sea levels and biodiversity loss underline the crisis we face. It is imperative that we, as a society, recognize the multifaceted nature of this challenge. Solutions must integrate scientific advances as well as legal and political frameworks, ensuring that every stakeholder is held accountable for their role in tackling climate change.
Dr. Afroz Ahmed Highlighting the staggering impact of fly ash, it said, “Globally, about 800 million tonnes of fly ash is generated, of which India contributes about 180 million tonnes. This not only poses environmental threats but also highlights the urgent need for stringent regulatory measures and innovative solutions. We must focus on sustainable practices that not only reduce this waste but also harness its potential in a way that benefits society.
Shri Chandra Bhushan Stressed the need to unravel the complex relationship between environmental protection and community displacement. He commented, “The pursuit of sustainability often leads to conflict, especially for marginalized communities. We must understand that our environmental policies must be inclusive and meet the rights and needs of those who are most affected. True sustainability requires a holistic approach that balances ecological conservation with social justice.
Mr. Sanjay Upadhyay Called for climate responsibility to be integrated into Indian law, advocating a comprehensive legal framework based on sound principles. “We need to tackle climate liability with a sense of urgency and responsibility,” he said. It is important that our legal frameworks reflect the realities of climate change and ensure justice for those affected. An omnibus law is necessary, and it should be informed by both legal expertise and practical considerations, ensuring we are prepared for future challenges.
Mr. Praveen Garg Said, we must strive to build a future in which no community bears a disproportionate burden of the climate crisis, a future where the dignity and rights of all people are protected and where we live in harmony with the ecosystems that sustain us. Maintain.
The approach should be to create a comprehensive but well-thought-out legislation on climate change. There is a need to shift the population settled on small agricultural lands, which can be brought about by quality education and skill development in emerging areas.
Finally, the Mobius Foundation and the Environmental Law and Development Foundation invite all stakeholders to continue the discussion about climate responsibility and justice, emphasizing the importance of youth participation in this important dialogue.
