Heavy rain predicted in Karnataka; dust storm in Delhi | Check IMD forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday said that Delhi is likely to witness dust storms today. For Karnataka and Konkan coasts, the IMD has predicted “very heavy” rains from Friday. The northwestern states are also likely to witness rains and thunderstorms till Thursday.

The Meteorological Department has predicted severe heat conditions in eastern India, Uttar Pradesh and parts of Madhya Pradesh for the next five days.

IMD Delhi forecast today

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, New Delhi, the national capital is likely to witness thunderstorms and lightning along with dust storm with wind speed of 40-60 kilometre per hour on Wednesday.

The weather agency has also predicted heatwaves at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. However, dust storms are also likely in parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh like Delhi.

The weather centre has predicted thunderstorms and lightning along with strong winds at the speed of 30-50 kmph in Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh today.

There is a possibility of thunderstorms with speed of 50-60 kmph and lightning at some places in Himachal Pradesh.

A storm is a sudden and strong gust of wind that lasts only a few seconds.

IMD report on southwest monsoon

The weather agency has predicted heavy rainfall in parts of Karnataka for the next five days.

Kerala and Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Rayalaseema are also likely to receive heavy rains in the coming days.

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall for Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada till June 9.

IMD statement on rain

Light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speed reaching 30-40 kmph are likely over northwest states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh during next 5 days.

Hailstorms and gusty winds with speeds of 50-60 kmph are likely in some parts of Madhya Pradesh till tomorrow.

For the hilly areas – Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand – the IMD has forecast scattered light rain accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds for the next 3-4 days.

According to the weather agency, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi are likely to receive very light rains in the next 2 days, while Uttar Pradesh may receive rain today or tomorrow.

There is a possibility of light to very light rainfall in Rajasthan also from 5th to 8th June.

Dust storms are likely in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on Thursday and in Rajasthan on June 6-8.

IMD’s response to heatwave

Heat wave conditions are expected to continue in some areas of Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand till June 9.

The IMD said that some parts of Uttar Pradesh are likely to experience severe heat till June 9.
