Nikita Porwal, 22, from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, became an overnight sensation by winning the Miss India World crown last week. But her journey from a humble background as a young girl to the global stage has just begun, and the beauty queen finds these changes surreal. “Things have changed for me, and my life has been turned upside down. Now this life is not the same as before. I started with 1700 followers, and now, with every refresh, the number keeps increasing. It’s not just Instagram; I feel much more responsible now. The entire country has expectations from me and it is my role to represent true India on the world stage.”
When asked what she felt when Miss India 2023 Nandini Gupta placed the crown on her head, Nikita only felt gratitude. “I felt grateful to the audience, the judges who chose me Miss India 2024, God and my parents. Because I know that this would not have been possible without the support of my parents.”
‘Beauty fades with time, but intelligence remains’
However, winning a beauty pageant does not come without criticism. Pageants have long been criticized for placing too much responsibility on beauty. When Nikita was asked about her views, she said, “I think Miss Femina doesn’t just stand for beauty. For 60 years, we have highlighted that it should be ‘beauty with a purpose’. Beauty fades with time, but wisdom stays with you, the country and the people, even when you are gone. “I think that’s what true beauty should mean – intelligence, intelligence, patriotism.”
‘I want my parents to be known by my name’
Nikita, who comes from a simple background, says that her parents always supported her, so she always felt obliged to repay them for it. “I come from a simple and humble background. I moved to Mumbai to achieve my dreams, but my parents are still in Ujjain. They need to listen to what people say to them. Building a career in the entertainment industry is not easy, and I always wanted my name to be known, and that has already started happening,” smiles the Miss World winner.
‘I want to be like Aishwarya’
As far as the ideals that inspired her are concerned, Nikita had only one star in mind: Aishwarya Rai. “I think she is not just a beautiful person externally, but the real ‘beauty with a purpose’ (Miss World’s motto). I really want to be like him. When I go on the global stage, I want to develop as much strength as he has. The way he has portrayed India on the world stage is unprecedented.” As far as the victory speech is concerned, Nikita’s favorite was Lara Dutta.
When asked if she would follow in the footsteps of her idol and enter the film industry, Nikita, who has been doing theater for the last seven years, says that if the opportunity arises, she would not back down. “I want to be an actor, so why not.” However, for now her focus is on Miss World for the coming two years.
‘I don’t have any godfather’
When asked if she thinks pageants like Miss India and Miss World become a big step forward for beauty queens, Nikita couldn’t agree more. “It provides a platform for people like me who come from a very humble background and have no godfather in the industry. I don’t have any big connections in the industry, so yes, it supports them and empowers them.
When asked what she would tell the young girls she would inspire to participate in Miss India in the future, Nikita says, “I would like to tell them, ‘If you want to join a beauty pageant if you Whether you want to be a housewife or if you want to be a corporate employee, be anything but your choice.’ The meaning of feminism has changed to working in a corporate. [sector]But sometimes it is also about becoming a housewife or choosing to cook for your husband. So, whatever is done with choice is true feminism. Do whatever you set your mind to and you can be anything you want.”
In 2026, Nikita will be competing in the Miss World pageant and her entire efforts are focused on preparing for the Miss World stage and bringing home the crown. “It is a privilege to represent a country like India. I am truly a patriotic and proud Indian and am excited to represent the country on the world stage. I am a little nervous about playing the role of the Indian representative on the Miss World stage. But the blessings of my supporters and my parents are with me. So, we will win and bring home the crown.
