Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis praised activist Manoj Zerange for ending his five -day hunger strike on the demand for Maratha reservation, stating that the government had found a solution in the best interest of the community.

PTI reported that 1. Fadnavis said that his administration has continued to prioritize the welfare of the Maratha community and expressed optimism that the state’s decision on the issue of quota will give them significant benefits.

Fadnavis said that the government told the protesters that caste certificate can be given to individuals and not the community. “We have found a way and accepted his most prominent demand to implement Hyderabad Gazetteer. We had no two views about it. They were demanding that it should be implemented for all Marathas. But we tried to convince them that reservation is not for a group, but such decisions could not be taken as evidence.

3. Manoj Gerange ended his hunger strike at Azad Maidan in South Mumbai on Tuesday afternoon, when the Maharashtra government agreed to most of his demands. Among them, it was a decision to issue the Kunbi caste certificate to the eligible Marathas, allowing them to use reservation benefits under other backward classes (OBC) category.
5. The 43-year-old activist broke his fast by accepting a glass of fruit juice from senior BJP minister Radhakrishna Vichha Patil, who presides over the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Maratha reservation, and other officers present at the protest site.
6. Fadnavis said that the Marathas had some misunderstandings between the OBCs on reservation, but this is wrong. Responding to a query that he faced a lot of criticism and was targeted, the CM always believed that in political life, people sometimes praise you and sometimes criticize you.

7. “However, from the first day, my stand was that we will not let the crop of any dispute between the Marathas and the OBC go away. We cannot snatch anything from one group and give it to the other. Our decision will benefit both of them and I think we have only made that we can take a good decision that will benefit the Maratha community in a big way,” he said.
