West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is “anti-women” as it talks about Lord Ram but not Goddess Sita. Banerjee’s statement came hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Ram temple in Ayodhya and led the rituals of consecration ceremony there.
Banerjee, who led TMC’s ‘Samhati Rally’ on the day of the Ram Mandir Pran Pratistha ceremony, said, “They (BJP) talk about Lord Ram, but what about Goddess Sita? She was with Lord Rama during his exile. They don’t speak about it because they are anti-women.”

Banerjee started the rally after offering puja and prayers at the city’s iconic Kalighat temple. During the Sanhati rally, he also visited a church at Park Circus, symbolizing the shared commitment towards unity, TMC said in a tweet.
Speaking at the event, Banerjee Said, “I don’t care who worships whom. I have a problem with unemployment in the country. Where did the country’s money go?
Meanwhile, TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee was quoted by ANI as saying, “Today is a proud day for Bengal. While the entire country is engaged in religious programs, the people of Bengal are standing together on the road and praying for peace .Bengal does this.” Don’t do politics of religion, we have only one religion and that is – service should be provided to all.”
The consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya was held after the first phase of the temple construction. This was made possible by the Supreme Court’s decision in 2019 on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid ownership case. Hindu litigants argued that the Babri Masjid was built on the site of a temple marking the birthplace of Lord Ram. In 1992, the 16th-century mosque was demolished by “kar sevaks”.
