Emphasizing the need for academic cooperation between Guwahati, national and international institutions, Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya on Friday urged Gauhati University to play a leading role in this regard.
Speaking at the 32nd convocation of Varity, Acharya said that united efforts from all the quarters will ensure that India emerges as a global center in the education sector.
He said, “Together, we should try to regain the location of India as a world leader in knowledge and knowledge as ‘Vishwaguru’. The University of Gauhati should lead our strong efforts towards achieving it,” he said.
He said that students should also be active in ensuring that the country becomes a global power hub in education.
He asked Gauhati University to have a relationship with institutions like IIT and NIT.
Emphasizing the importance of the National Education Policy 2020 in removing the country’s educational landscape, Acharya said that Versity has been well placed to act as a catalyst in realizing his goals.
He appreciated the University of Gauhati for being first in the Northeast for implementing NEP 2020 and appreciated to adopt digital platforms such as e-support.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also urged the students to seize the opportunities that provide green energy from the semiconductor and eco-tourism, while speaking at the ceremony.
“I assure new graduates that the government will create enough opportunities for them to carry forward its dreams in Assam,” he said.

Honorary doctor of science degree was honored on the prestigious oncologist Amal Chandra Kataki, while the Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Choka Meen and noted oncologist Tapan Kumar Saikia was honored with the Honorary Doctor of Philosophy degree at the ceremony.
A total of 3,744 degrees were awarded at the convocation.
