According to data from the Ministry of Education, Kendriya Vidyalayas has seen a decline of 2.86% in enrollment in five years with 13,50,518 students in 2024-25 compared to 13,87,763 in 2024-21.

Entry for Central Vidyalayas (KVS) has seen a steady decline in the last few years as per the written response of the Ministry of Education and Literacy in the last few years. The data was provided in response to a parliamentary question raised by BK Parthasrathi Sudha R of Telugu Desam Party and Congress.
According to the ministry, currently 1,280 Central Vidyalayas Working across the country with total enrollment of 13,50,518 students in 2024-25 academic session. This reflects a significant decline compared to the 2020-21 season, with 13,87,763 students recorded.S, Deall of 37,245 students, or about 2.86 percent in a five -year period.

When comparing 2024–25 and 2023-24 academic sessions, 39,042 students across the country decline significantly. In the last five years, the highest entry rate was recorded in 2021-22, with 14,29,434 students admitted to Kendia Vidya.
The government cleans the nationwide 85 new KVS
Despite the decline in enrollment, the ministry also said that the Government of India has approved the inauguration of 85 new Kandriya Vidyalayas under Civil and Defense areas in December 2024. In addition to these new schools, an existing Kendra Vidyalayala in Shivamogga, Karnataka will be expanded in addition to two more classes in each category. The total estimated cost for these projects is around Rs 5,872.08 crore.
According to the Ministry, the construction and approval of new Kandria Vidyas is a continuous process. The proposals of the new KV can be started by the Ministries or Departments of the Government of India, State Governments, or Center Area (UT) Administration.
These proposals should include necessary resources such as land and temporary housing, according to the criteria set. Final approval for the installation of new KV is subject to approval by the competent authority, following the established processes.
It was also clarified in the written reply that the center is not established on the basis of the boundaries of students, UTS, parliamentary constituencies or districts.
Equal courses for children of central government employees
Candriya Vidyalayal is mainly established to meet the educational requirements of children of transferable central government employees, including defense and para-culture forces, central autonomous bodies, central public sector undertakings (PSUs), and central institutions of Central Higher Education (IHLS). These schools offer uniform courses across the country to ensure continuity in education for children whose parents are often transferred.
