Karan Johar may have made his mark on the global stage, but at home, his kids Yash and Roohi are still trying to understand what their father does. The filmmaker confessed this in an episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show. The filmmaker was seen in the first episode of the second season of the show, which is streaming on Netflix, also featuring Jigra actors Alia Bhatt, Vedang Raina and director Vasan Bala.

Karan opened up about his life as a father during a conversation with host Kapil Sharma.
He said, “They don’t know what I do. I tell them I’m a director. They come back and ask me if a director is usually behind the camera… because they see me on television.”
Karan adds, “I tell them what I do. Once someone asked them, ‘What does your dad do’, they said ‘We are very confused. We don’t know what he does’. They really don’t know.”
Karan said that he enjoys it a lot when his kids see him in makeup and changing clothes with the costume designer at home. He said, “They keep wondering what is happening.”
Here, when Kapil asked him about his twins trolling him, Karan laughingly accepted it. Karan quipped, “They are my biggest trolls… So, why should I be scared of others when I have kids.”
On paternity
In this episode, Karan also talked about becoming the father of twins and said that it has changed him a lot.
He said, “Now I have started thinking more about the future. I think about everything that I need for my children to chart a path for their future. Secondly, I am part of two WhatsApp groups with all the mothers. Yash and Roohi are in different divisions. So, I communicate with 60 mothers daily.”
Karan also revealed that he was surprised that he “told him so many silly stories”. “He loved animals and loved hearing about lions, tigers, elephants and birds. So, I used to tell him silly stories,” he added.
About Karan’s twins
Karan welcomed his son Yash and daughter Roohi via surrogacy in February 2017. He named the son Yash after his father, the late Yash Johar, while Roohi is an anagram of his mother’s name, Hiroo.
Karan’s upcoming work
Talking about films, Karan has co-produced Jigra with Alia Bhatt. Alia is in the lead role in this film, which is a story of brother and sister. It also stars Vedang Raina.
Apart from this, he is going to make a much-awaited web series for Netflix. This is a passion project for the director, which will have a stellar team of celebrated female actors. The script has been finalized, and the production is set to begin in early 2025.
