New Delhi: Kamal Haasan’s film ‘Thug Life’ took place in theaters amid ‘Kannada-Tamil’ controversy. The film, directed by Mani Ratnam, was released across the country, but the people of Karnataka could not move to theaters to see it. Actually, the film has been banned in the state due to Kamal Haasan’s statement of ‘Kannada Tamil’. However, the fans of Kamal Haasan have found a way to see ‘Thug Life’.

Why ‘thug life’ was banned in Karnataka?
Kamal Haasan has ever been caught in controversy when he made a controversy statement in the audio launch event of ‘Thug Life’ in Chennai, linking the origin of Kannada language to Tamil. The actor had said, ‘Actor Shivrajkumar is a member of my family who lives in another state. So he is here. So when I started my speech, I said- my life and my family is Tamil. Your language (Kannada) is born from Tamil. So you are also included in the same line. The actor’s statement became increasingly viral, after which the proknada parties in Karnataka reacted. A complaint was filed against the actor and later the Karnataka High Court also reprimanded him. However, Kamal Haasan refused to apologize, after which the film was banned in the state.

Kamal Haasan recently wrote a letter to the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), in which he claimed that his statement has been misrepresented. He wrote in the letter, ‘I feel sad that my statement was misunderstood at the audio launch of’ Thug Life ‘, which was spoken with true affection for Dr. Rajkumar’s family, especially Shivrajkumar. The purpose of my words was to tell that we are all one and from the same family and did not have to reduce Kannada in any way. There is no dispute or debate on the rich heritage of Kannada language.
