Starring Vedang Raina and Manoj Pahwa, the escape thriller is co-produced by Alia and her sister Shaheen Bhatt’s Eternal Sunshine Productions and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. In Jigra, Alia plays Satya Anand, a young woman who struggles to save her brother Ankur Anand, who is being tortured while imprisoned in a foreign prison. Satya vows to get Ankur out of jail after he is sentenced to death.
The film has faced many controversies since its release. Actor-filmmaker Divya Khosla Kumar recently commented that the film is similar to the story of her previous film Saavi. He also accused Alia of manipulating the box office numbers of Jigra. Meanwhile, Manipuri based actor Bujau Thangjam accused Jigra’s casting team of unprofessional behaviour. According to the actor, he was asked to be available in December to shoot the film, but never received a follow-up call.
