National Testing Agency, NTA conducted the JEE Mains 2024 exam session 1 Day 4 Shift 2 examination on January 31, 2024 from 3 PM to 6 PM. The examination was conducted at various examination centers across the country.

Students who have appeared for the exam found the paper to be of easy to moderate difficulty level. Mathematics was moderate while Physics and Chemistry were easy. Overall, this paper was of moderate level according to students in all three subjects.

There were total 90 questions and total marks for JEE Main Paper-1 was 300.

JEE Mains 2024 Exam Session 1: Exam Pattern

The paper had three parts and each part had two sections:

Part-I-Physics had a total of 30* questions – Part-I had 20 multiple choice questions with single correct answers and Part-II had 10 numerical based questions, out of which only 5 were to be attempted. The marking scheme for multiple choice questions was +4 for correct answer, -1 for wrong answer, 0 for no attempt. The marking scheme for numerical based questions was +4 for correct answer, -1 for wrong answer and 0 in all other cases. The total marks of this section were 100.

JEE Mains 2024 Exam Session 1: Complete Analysis

Mathematics -medium. Weightage was given to chapters of coordinate geometry and calculus. Questions were from all chapters in Co-ordinate Geometry – Straight Lines, Circle, Parabola, Ellipse and Hyperbola. In Algebra, questions were asked from Matrices and Determinants, Probability, Complex Numbers, Progressions, Permutations and Combinations- 2 Questions, Binomial Theorem, Vector, 3D Geometry. In Calculus, Questions Asked from Sets, Relations and Functions- 02 Questions, Limits, Continuity, Differential Equations, Definite Integrals. The calculation of some MCQs and numerical based questions was long and tricky.

Physics – Easy. Questions were asked from almost all chapters. Weightage was given to current electricity and magnetism. Some good questions from the chapters of Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Work Power and Energy, Heat and Thermodynamics, Sound and Waves, Gravitation, Electrostatics, Optics, Modern Physics, Semiconductors. Numerical based questions were easy. There were more questions in Physics from class 12th.

chemistry – Easy. There were approximately 10 questions in Organic Chemistry. Questions asked from GOC, Alcohols, Ethers and Phenols, Amines, Aldehydes and Ketones, Aryl and Alkyl Halides Mixed Concept Questions, Biomolecules. In Physical Chemistry, questions were from Mole Concept, Thermodynamics, Chemical Kinetics and Ionic Equilibrium. In inorganic chemistry there were questions from coordination compounds, chemical bonds and periodicity. Some NCERT fact based questions were asked. This was an easy section.
