At least 56 candidates, including two women, have scored full marks in the Joint Entrance Examination (Main), or JEE (Main), the results of which were released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) late on Wednesday night.
The number of students scoring 100 NTA scores has increased significantly from last year’s figure of 43.
This also means that the cut-off for JEE (Advanced), the qualifying examination for admission to premier Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) colleges, will rise sharply.
In fact, the cut-off for JEE (Advanced) this time was recorded at the highest level in five years.
JEE (Main) is a computerized examination conducted in two sessions: the first between January 24 and February 1 and the second between April 1 and April 15. 23 students achieved hundredth NTA score in the first session.
Overall, 10,67,959 students appeared for the exam, of which 250,284 have now qualified to take the JEE (Advanced) exam.
Saanvi Jain from Karnataka and Shayna Sinha from Delhi were the two women candidates to achieve 100 NTA score this year.
The combined results of both the sessions were declared on Wednesday. For students who appeared in both, the better score will be taken into consideration.
JEE (Main) is conducted for admission to various engineering courses including National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and other centrally funded technical colleges.
It also serves as the base eligibility bar for JEE (Advanced), the registration process for which will begin from Sunday. Only those candidates who meet the NTA cut-off for JEE (Advanced) exam based on their JEE (Main) performance can appear in the exam.
The qualifying score for JEE (Advanced) for the unreserved category increased from 90.7 last year to 93.23 this year.
Similarly, the cut-off for Other Backward Classes-Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) increased from 73.6 NTA scores to 79.6 NTA scores; For Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates, it has increased from 75.6 to 81.3; 51.9 to 60 for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates; And for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates it has increased from 37.23 to 46.69.
In 2022, JEE (Advanced) cutoff for unreserved category was 88.4, for OBC it was 67, for EWS it was 63.1; For Scheduled Caste candidates it was 43; And for ST candidates it was 26.7.
Of the candidates who secured the hundredth NTA score, 100 are from the OBC-NCL category, and six are from the EWS category, while the others are from the general category.
