Users shared their experiences on Reddit. One user wrote, ‘Nowadays, most laptops, including MacBooks, take power directly from the adapter after the battery is fully charged. If you always use it on AC power, it is almost like a desktop.
Many people said that continuously discharging and charging the battery reduces its capacity. Whereas continuous charging reduces the battery cycles and gradually reduces the battery life.
Some users suggested that new laptops often have the option to set an 80% charge limit. Due to this, the battery does not get fully charged to 100% and the battery life remains longer.
Many laptop manufacturers now offer features that detect when the laptop is being used mostly on a desk and adjust the charging pattern accordingly. One user wrote, ‘My MacBook (2007) battery failed in 2010, but there was no problem in plugging it in and running it for a week.’
