The much-awaited Roorkee Water Conclave 2024 of IIT Roorkee was inaugurated on Monday. The event is a collaborative initiative of IIT Roorkee and National Institute of Hydrology Roorkee (NIH).
According to a press release, the conclave is being attended by over 50 international experts and over 12 exhibitors who will delve deeper into the critical issues of responsible water management and circular economy, paving the way to a sustainable future.
The partnership between the National Institute of Hydrology (NIH) and IIT Roorkee enhances the impact of the Roorkee Water Conclave by combining the expertise of two institutions with a rich heritage in the water sector, the release said.

This conference serves as an important platform for global discussion on water resources management. The program covers topics ranging from water management to emerging technologies facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration and exchange of knowledge.
According to the release, the conference is organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India.
Professor Berit Arheimer, hydrologist at the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) and President of the International Association for Hydrological Sciences, addressed the event, in which he stressed the important role of collaborative platforms like the Roorkee Water Conclave in addressing global water challenges.
He also stressed the importance of interdisciplinary dialogue and knowledge exchange in developing sustainable water management solutions that benefit societies around the world.
Director of IIT Roorkee, Prof. KK Pant, during his presidential address, said that this conference is a testament to the Institute’s commitment to advance knowledge and promote collaboration in the critical area of water management.
He said that the patronage of the Ministry of Jal Shakti has given added importance to this conference which reflects the government’s dedication to overcome water related issues.
Similarly, Dr. MK Goyal, Director, National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee, said that the conference will provide a unique opportunity to stakeholders to exchange ideas and chart a course towards sustainable water management by leveraging collective expertise and resources. Does.
Some of the other speakers at the conclave included Professor Arun Kumar, convener of Roorkee Water Conclave 2024, and Professor Ankit Aggarwal from the Department of Hydrology.
