New Delhi, December 31 (Language) The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) has taken several measures which include an investment of about Rs 10 crore. Rs 200 crore will be spent on infrastructure development to strengthen its educational and training ecosystem, a government official said.
IIMC Registrar Nimish Rustagi said the institute has also launched new programmes, modernized its facilities and made significant achievements in media education and training.
He said the institute, which has been declared a ‘deemed university’, launched two MA programs – Media Business Studies and Strategic Communication – in August with an intake of 80 students.
“Remarkable focus was laid on modernization and upgradation of the infrastructure of the institute in the year 2024. The big push came in the form of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting approving the proposals for approx. “Rs 200 crore for the construction of IIMC’s own campus in Amravati, Maharashtra and expansion of the campus here,” Rustagi said.
He said that these projects will be realized in the next two years to further promote media education in the country.
“The infrastructure upgrade was undertaken in 2024, almost as a mission. For example, audio-visual equipment was upgraded across all six campuses, while Mojo studios were also installed across all campuses. The libraries were enriched with the purchase of latest books and the computer laboratories were provided with the latest high-end PCs with the necessary software,” he said.
Entrepreneurial culture took center stage with the inauguration of the ‘first’ incubation centers in Delhi and Kottayam.
Additionally, IIMC has announced Ideathon, which aims to promote entrepreneurial ideas and startups by students, he said, adding that the best projects will be mentored by industry experts.
“New topics related to Artificial Intelligence and Emotional Intelligence were introduced in various executive training programs conducted during the year,” he said.
Headquartered in the national capital, the institute has five regional campuses at Aizawl (Mizoram), Amravati (Maharashtra), Dhenkanal (Odisha), Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) and Kottayam (Kerala).
