In an interview with HT lifestyle, Surgical Oncologist at Talegaon’s Onco Life Cancer Cancer. Jaapal Reddy revealed five major things that you should know about the prevention and screening of colon cancer.

1. Regular screening saves life:

The colon cancer develops quietly, without any major symptoms in its early stages. Therefore, regular screening is important for all. Everyone should start screening at the age of 45 years or even before the family history of the disease. In an early stage, go for polyps or cancer detection and to help improve the quality of life, go for colonoscopy, stool-based tests and tests such as CT colonography.

2. Follow a healthy diet:

A fiber -rich diet with lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and beans helps reduce the risk of cancer. Reducing processed foods and high -fat foods can also help. Even better colon health contributes to drinking water and limiting alcohol intake.

3. Exercise every day:

It is a known fact that a sedentary lifestyle can expose you to the risk of diseases and stars of conditions. Regular exercise, such as walking, jogging, yoga or power training, helps to improve the body’s digestion and low inflammation. To maintain healthy colon, exercise should be done for at least 30 minutes for 5 days a week.

4. Family History and Genetics:

People with family history of colon cancer are at greater risk. Therefore, the screening should begin in advance, from the age of 25. Genetic counseling can also help assess individual risk. Do it as suggested by the doctor.

5. Initial symptoms should not be ignored:

Do you have Symptoms of colon cancer may not show quickly. The doctor should be informed for continuous changes in bowel habits, blood in stool, sudden weight loss, abdominal pain, or fatigue further. Doctors will start treatment after diagnosis of cancer.
