Gynecologists share 8 safe monsoon travel tips for pregnant women: wear cotton clothes, report and much more

While a trip is calming down during the rainy season, there are many health challenges especially for pregnant women. Learn how to be safe with these tips.

The monsoon revealed a new side for acquaintances, whether it is making nature greenery or giving a new look to Citizescape. But the monsoon also brings many challenges that demand additional precautions for mom of hope. From slippery roads to high risk of diseases, pregnant women need to take proper care to ensure a safe journey.

In Apollo Cradle and Children Hospital, Bangalore-Electronic City, Dr. Ritu Chaudhary, Lead Consultant, OBS and Gyne, Robotic and Laparoscopic surgeon told HT lifestyle that security is necessary, from maintaining hydration to eating clean foods. He said, “With some supporters-conclusion in choosing the correct mode of transport, to keep themselves hydrated, to eat clean food and safety, expected mothers can ensure a safe and pleasant journey in the monsoon.”

Dr. Ritu Chaudhary shared eight tips, including the essential things, of which the clothes prefer on transport to wearing clothes:

1. First ask a doctor

  • Always consult a gynecologist before arranging any travel, especially during pregnancy before or third trimester.
  • Depending on individual health conditions, travel may be restricted during high -risk pregnancy or in some stages.
  • Always take reports and documents of medical history and emergency contact numbers.

2. Selecting proper transportation

  • Trains and private vehicles are usually more comfortable and safe than buses or two-wheelers during monsoon; Thus, always like those people if possible.
  • While traveling through flight, always check airline policies for pregnant women and avoid air travel after 36 weeks of pregnancy.

3. Check the weather and road conditions

  • Always check the weather and see the weather app or website to get a clear view about what to venture out.
  • Avoid going out when it rains, or there is a storm or other warning.
  • Long road trips should be considered beyond the possibility of wet roads, water pooling and poor visibility.
  • All these situations are slipping and falling or falling into a car accident.

  • Wear loose, cotton clothes and keep an additional set of cloth nearby. Take waterproof jackets and strong umbrellas.

5. Keep cleanliness

  • The risk of infections such as UTI and gastroenteritis is high during monsoon.
  • Hand sanitisers, wipes, tissues and a toilet seat are disinfectant sprays.
  • Minimize the use of public toilets. Drink clean potable water.

6. Follow a balanced diet

  • Cravings of pregnancy are normal, but it is appropriate to avoid street food during monsoon.
  • Fruits, salads, which are already cut and the food that is left can be risky.
  • Oily, spicy, or very salty foods can also trigger resentment or indigestion.
  • Only consume fresh ripe food prepared under hygiene conditions.

7. Ensure safety from mosquitoes

  • During the monsoon season, dress in a long-sleeved shirt on dengue and malaria peak and apply pregnancy-safe insect replants.
  • Stay away from stable water and sleep under a mosquito net on your journey

8. Take a break while traveling

  • Extended travel may cause leg cramps, back pain or fatigue. Remember to take a regular brake and stretch from your journey.
  • If you are traveling by car, be sure to stop every 1.5-2 hours.
  • It is best to book less berths for the convenience and safety on the train while booking train tickets.
