At a time when the internet is full of health advice pushing for more protein but with fancy diets, a Fortis doctor said three eggs can help you achieve your health goals without complicating meals.
In a viral video, Dr Shubham Vatsya, gastroenterologist at Fortis Vasant Kunj, Delhi, said that eating just three eggs every day can transform health.
Sharing his personal example, the doctor said he lost 38 kg in three years by eating eggs every day. Dr. Vatsya, who has 10+ years of experience in gut health, said, “Egg consumption is no less than a boon for good health.” “Eating three eggs every day can change your life.”
He said that eating 3 eggs per day provides the human body with 18 grams of “complete and high-quality” protein. “This protein contains all the essential amino acids, which are necessary for muscle recovery and fat metabolism.”
“Regular consumption of eggs helps increase HDL, or good cholesterol, and converts LDL particles, or bad cholesterol, into a safer, larger form… reducing cardiovascular risk naturally,” said Dr. Vatsya.
The gastroenterologist also said that egg yolk is rich in nutrients, which not only helps promote liver health, but is also a great source of antioxidants.
“Egg yolk is a rich source of choline, an essential nutrient that helps the liver break down fat and promote detoxification. Hence, eggs are called ‘liver supporting food’,” he said.
“Egg yolks contain antioxidants like lutein and zeaxanthin which are a boon for the eyes and protect the skin from premature ageing,” he said.
However, he cautioned that eggs can only help if the overall diet is balanced.
In the caption, Dr Vatsya wrote: “The power of eating 3 eggs every day! Eating three eggs a day can really change your health.”
“Try it for 30 days, your body will feel the difference,” he said.
In his previous video, Dr Vatsya had said that one bowl of dal, which is the average daily consumption of vegetarian Indians, is insufficient to meet the daily protein intake. To get just 24 grams of protein from lentils, “you would need to eat at least 5 bowls (100 grams),” he said.
He said that compared to 100 grams of chicken, 100 grams of pulses still contains five or six grams less protein.
How much protein do you really need?
The World Health Organization recommends 0.83 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight (g/kg) per day for healthy adults to maintain muscle and tissue health.
