Forget the guilt: Here is that losing weight cannot ruin your fitness progression

For anyone who is ever struggling with weight loss, the fear of re -achieving lost pounds may be overwhelming, but a new research from the University of Gothenburg has suggested that even if you gain some weight, your early weight loss health benefits can still stick around, provide long -term protection against serious diseases.

Science and health behind weight

Published in the health-europe of the Lancet sector, this study was often divided into one-notkik question: what happens to your health if you achieve some lost weight again? While there is a lot of research on the benefits of weight loss, there is a limited understanding of long -term effects of weight till now.

The study analyzed 1,346 participants of Swedish obese subjects (SOS) studies, which is a large-scale research project, which examines the long-term health effects of bariatric (weight-loss) surgery. Researchers saw major health results including life expectancy, cancer risk, heart disease and microvascular disease (which affects the body’s smallest blood vessels). Additional health data was collected from Sweden’s National Health Registrations.

Amazing conclusion

On average, the participants lost about 30 kg (66 pounds) in the first year after surgery. However, surgery after four years, more than half of the lost weight achieved at least 20%.

Researchers divided the participants into two groups: who maintained their low weight and who had a sufficient share. Despite losing weight, the study found no difference in the risk of life expectancy or cancer between the two groups.

Cancer phenomenon and mortality remained the same, whether participants maintained their weight loss or achieved a few pounds. However, the study revealed some differences in other health results:

  • The risk of microvascular disease was high in those who lost weight with an incident rate of 11.0 per 1,000 per year compared to 8.7 per 1,000 in weight losses.
  • The risk of heart disease was slightly elevated in those who had gained weight, whose phenomenon was 15.7 per 1,000 persons, which was 13.0 per 1,000 in weight losses.

One of the key researchers of the study, Dr. Kajasa Sojohom emphasized the importance of this discovery and said, “So far, the effects of weight after large weight loss on prolonged health and mortality remain unknown. Now whatever we achieve our weight loss experience, it achieves a long positive effects for those who maintain their low weight.”

It is ideal to maintain weight loss, this research suggested that the initial benefits of weight loss – such as better metabolic health – do not completely disappear with some weight. However, Dr. Sjöholm said that obtaining significant weight can still pose risk, especially for heart health and overall quality of life. Issues like joint pain and social stigma of obesity can also become challenges.

If you have lost weight and achieved something, do not panic. Your efforts have still had a permanent impact on your health, however, this study also highlighted the importance of continuous support for those who have gone through large weight loss.
