Shruti Haasan became an actress following in the footsteps of her father Kamal Haasan, but very few know that in her early years she was inclined towards direction. In fact, she reveals that what attracted her about the job of a director is an incident related to her father.
“I always thought my dad was the best. He-Man was[the animated superhero]and he was my dad. So, I used to think, ‘Dad is great’. One day, I went to a set and I saw him listening to his director. And I used to think ‘Who is this guy who makes my dad act in class!’. And then I used to think, ‘Wow, directing is a great job’. It was a very silly inspiration at the beginning,” she told us on Father’s Day.
The 38-year-old actress is now juggling roles as an actor, musician and producer, and one wonders if she would like to revive her dream of directing, and perhaps one day direct a biopic of her superstar father.

“Oh god no! Absolutely not!” she says and explains why she is not the right person for the job. “If I were to ever make a film on dad’s life it would be very biased on my part. Also, I think there are better-equipped storytellers who would do justice to his story.”
In fact, celebrating her father’s amazing journey, Shruti recently paid tribute to him at the audio launch of his upcoming film Indian 2.
Sharing how performing her father’s songs on stage was a “great experience”, Shruti says, “Papa has had a very illustrious and amazing career, so it was like exploring different things in the ocean. It was really fun to take all these songs and incorporate them into a brand new set that was indicative of my style and the way I play it with my band. For me, it was really exciting to incorporate my music while honoring dad’s music for people,” concludes the actor, who will next be seen in Dacoit and Salaar 2.
