Malik suggests ways to stay active and healthy to ensure that you maintain your health and fitness during the festivities.
1. Include more fruits and vegetables in your diet
Most of the foods we eat during this season are often fried, fatty and high in calories. It is a good idea to include more fruits and vegetables like spinach, tomatoes and watermelon. They are low in fat and rich in nutrients, minerals and fiber.
2. Never skip a workout
Exercise is essential if you want to maintain your energy and develop a strong immune system. Heavy festival food and late night meals can take a toll on your body. Exercise keeps you fit, increases blood circulation and flushes out toxins from the body.
3. Eat mindfully
Most people often consume excessive food during festivals. It can also be challenging to completely avoid sweets and salty foods during gatherings with friends and family. Eat less fried and spicy foods and watch how much you eat.
4. Eat healthy sweets
We all love to eat sweets and festivals are just an excuse to eat more of them. While you love to eat your favorite vermicelli during Eid, try to control your portions. You can do this by eating fruits, dates, dry fruits or figs to satisfy your taste buds.
