The countdown to Christmas has already started, and with so many holiday parties and end-of-the-year celebrations lined up, it’s the perfect time to prepare your skin for that dazzling festive glow. Glowing skin doesn’t just come from the makeup you applied at the last minute; It is built on consistent, proper skin care in the days leading up to the festivities.
HT Lifestyle caught up with Dr Rickson Perera, dermatologist at Dr Rickson Dermatherapy Clinic and consultant at Holy Family Hospital, who shared 5 tips.
1. Hydration
During winter season your skin may feel dry and dehydrated. The shine fades, making your complexion look dull. The dermatologist cautioned that dryness will also cause makeup to appear too unevenly distributed. That’s why, a few days before your parties, you need to focus on hydration.
Dr. Perera shared that daily habits matter. he recommended, “Lukewarm showers, the barrier created through ceramide creams and regular re-application of moisturizer protect the upper layers from winter dryness. Hydration-focused care keeps skin supple, allowing light to be reflected more evenly and creating a refreshing holiday glow.”If you’re looking for a mild hydrating injectable, she suggests Pophilo, which is often used in clinics to improve firmness and elasticity and is known for its high water-binding capacity.

2. Exfoliation
The dermatologist shared that light exfoliation improves the glow, but it should be gentle. Using a mild acid twice a week will remove dead skin cells and even out the complexion, but any overuse can damage the skin barrier and increase redness.
3. Manage sensitivity and redness

During winter, many people experience sensitivity and redness due to seasonal changes. To combat these skin issues, Dr. Perera shares, “Products that contain niacinamide, panthenol, and oat extract reduce reactivity and help the skin tolerate cold weather. In addition to soothing ingredients, these also help protect your skin’s natural barrier by locking in moisture. Additionally, the doctor also highlighted that those attending work events or being outside for long periods of time in windy conditions should use more creams to retain moisture, and should apply them before going out in cold weather.
4. Skin Friendly Makeup Tips
For a glam look, you have to take care of some things so that your makeup does not look dry.
“A well-hydrated base prevents cracks around the eyes and mouth. A thin layer of hydrating primer creates a smooth canvas, and using cream-based products adds a soft glow without emphasizing texture,” shared Dr. Pereira. “Strategic highlighter placement at high points reflects warm holiday lights and enhances skin’s vitality.
5. Better lifestyle
Dr Perera shared that managing stress, getting enough sleep, staying hydrated with water-rich foods, limiting salty snacks and alcohol, and staying active helps maintain healthy, glowing skin during the festive season.
