Delhi Ganesh is a veteran Tamil actor who was born in Delhi, as his name suggests. He described Kamal Haasan as his favorite collaborator in 2021.
Delhi Ganesh, who acted with all the stars of Tamil cinema for almost three decades, died on Saturday night at the age of 80. His son Mahadevan posted the news on Instagram and confirmed that it was due to ill health. His son broke the news via an Instagram Story, saying, “We are deeply saddened to announce that our father Shri Delhi Ganesh passed away on November 9th around 11 pm.”

The Tamil actor, who began his career opposite noted director K Balachander in Pattina Pravesam (1976), was from Delhi (as his name suggests), where he was active in a theater troupe, Dakshina Bharat Natak Sabha. Was a member. The actor, nicknamed ‘Delhi Ganesh’ by K Balachander, who served in the Indian Air Force for a decade, acted in over 400 films during his career. He was last seen in Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2.
When Delhi Ganesh told Kamal Haasan his favorite
Delhi Ganesh was considered one of the most versatile actors in Kollywood, and played lead roles in most of Kamal Haasan’s films, from Nayagan to Indian 2. He said in an interview with The New Indian Express in 2021 that he was particularly fond of all the films in which he acted with Kamal Haasan as they were the ones that gave him the most recognition. He named Avvai Shanmughi, Tenali, Michael Madana Kama Rajan and Apoorva Sagodharargal as some of his favourites. When asked why he likes working with Kamal, he said, “Kamal gives a lot of space to actors and he trusts you. That makes all the difference.”
Some of his most influential roles were in films like Sindhu Bhairavi (1985), Nayakan (1987), Apoorva Sagodharargal (1989), Michael Madana Kaam Rajan (1990), Aaha..! (1997), and Tenali (2000) among others. The Aranmanai 4 actor was also seen in other language films like Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi. He was awarded the Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Award in 1979 for his performance in Paasi.
