Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Sunday highlighted the ‘hellish’ living conditions in parts of the city after reviewing infrastructure and services. After this comment, former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has assured immediate action.
“It was extremely disappointing and disturbing to see the helplessness and miserable life of millions of people in the capital… These areas lack even basic civic amenities and services. There is no drainage system, due to which the narrow streets are constantly filled with silt and dirty water. Roads are next to nothing…Residents of the area expressed their problems regarding inadequate power supply, irregular water distribution, piles of garbage on the roads and complete lack of cleanliness,” Saxena said in a long social media post. wrote.
She also said there is an acute water shortage in the area – women are forced to fetch water in buckets from a tanker that comes once in 7-8 days. Electricity supply also remained “erratic” and many residents complained to the Lieutenant Governor about power cuts of 8 to 10 hours per day and huge electricity bills.
He also urged the AAP-led Delhi government to visit the affected areas and take stock of the ‘hellish’ living conditions. The Lieutenant Governor said he has assured the local people of immediate action – the clean-up drive is set to begin from Monday.
The remarks have sparked a political war of words between the BJP and AAP – with the ruling party accused of turning a blind eye to cleanliness issues in the national capital. However, former CM Arvind Kejriwal thanked the LG for highlighting the issues and assured a prompt response.
“I thank the Lieutenant Governor wholeheartedly. We will address all the shortcomings that they have identified. He went to Nangloi-Mundka road and pointed towards potholes, we are getting that road repaired. We will clean up the areas he visited today. I urge him to point out the shortcomings…we will resolve them,” The Times of India quoted him telling reporters.
