ISRO Chairman S Somnath on Friday presented the Indian Space Situational Assessment Report (ISSAR) 2023, which presents an annual account of the country’s progress in the field of space. It has been designed by ISRO’s Safe and Sustainable Space Operations Management System (IS4OM).
The report provides detailed information about various environmental threats faced by space missions such as asteroids, comets, meteorites and artificial space objects. The report emphasizes continued awareness of these risks to assess satellite launch vehicles, study atmospheric re-entry of satellites, and the evolution of debris in space.
Let us inform that before Chandrayaan-3, the launch of PSLV-C55/TeLEOS-2 was also delayed by one minute on 22 April 2023. Apart from this, last year itself, the launch of PSLV-C56/DS-SAR was delayed by one minute on July 30, 2023, so that these two rockets and the satellite could be protected from collision with space debris and other satellites. . Before the launch of Chandrayaan-3, scientists had seen garbage in space, which was a piece of another satellite. If Chandrayaan-3 had been launched on time, it would have collided with the debris and the mission would not have been completed.
Somnath also shared information about India’s next moon mission Chandrayaan-4. According to him, Chandrayaan-4 mission is being developed as a sequel to the Chandrayaan series. He said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that India intends to land on the moon in 2040. To achieve this goal, continued exploration of the Moon is necessary.
He said, “Chandrayaan-4 will be the first step towards this objective.” The goal of the mission is to send a probe to the Moon, collect samples and return them to Earth. Ultimately, when India is ready for human space flight, Indian astronauts will be sent to the Moon on Chandrayaan to conduct experiments and return safely.”
