Miami (AP) – Officers have shut down distance cill fisheries near Antarctica after traveling for small crustaceans – an important food source for whales that help fight climate change – the first time is higher than the seasonal catch range.

A report is followed by the Associated Press last week as an unprecedented closure of fisheries, which describes a record bounce after a long conservation structure after a record hike in the craill catches, which had no plans to handle the growing pressure in the world’s southern fisheries.

The Commission for the protection of the Antarctic Marine Living Resources, or CCAMLR, refused to comment, the international organization that manages fisheries, but confirmed the shutdown earlier this month of 2024–25 season, which should have been extended by December, a 620,000 MT range was hit after fishing.

The United States, Russia, China and two dozen other governments failed to approve a new management plan last year, which would be mandatory to spread the area in which Krill can be caught and environmentally sensitively sensitive Antarctic Peninsula to create a California -shaped reserve.

In the absence of a deal, the industrial traler was allowed to catch fish anywhere at any time, including whales, penguins and small houses liked by seals. According to an internal CCAMLR report obtained by AP, in a hot spot, the catch through June 30 was about 60% more than all of the previous season.

Krill is one of the most abundant marine species in the world, with an estimated biomass of 63 million metric tons. But increasing demand for fishing, climate change and growing demand for omega-3 rich oils of cills has increased pressure on chilly shares for advance-fish, pet food and human diet supplements. In the 2023–24 season, a fleet of 12 tralers from most Norway and China caught 498,350 tonnes-The largest crop started collecting catch data in 1973 since CCAMLR until CCAMLR.

Underlining the competition between humans and whales, three humpback whales were found dead or seriously injured last year, which were to vacuum a long, long, cylindrical mesh to vacuum a paper-clip-shaped crustacean in a cylindrical mesh.

Crills are not only important for marine ecosystems. Fast, researchers are focusing on their role as a boy against climate change. A colleague-reviewed study found that the Krill removes from the atmosphere and stores 20 million tons of carbon in the sea annually. This is equivalent to unloading 5 million cars every year.
