A comprehensive skill laboratory with all the necessary equipment and machinery is a mandatory requirement for schools seeking new affiliation from CBSE.
Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE)CBSE) has directed all schools affiliated to the board to set up a ‘Comprehensive Skills Laboratory’ with all the necessary equipment and machinery to effectively implement the recommendations of NEP and NCF-SE.
In an official notification, CBSE stressed the need to set up a ‘Holistic Skills Lab’ as the board believes that setting up the lab will help in imparting training on practical skills as per the needs of the industry, enhance employability prospects for students in various trades and vocations, help in exploring diverse career paths beyond the conventional options and promote entrepreneurial abilities among students.
The official notification of the board states, “It has been observed that at present many schools lack the required facilities and equipment to impart effective practical training. The matter was discussed in the 139th meeting of the Governing Body of the Board and it was mandated that all schools affiliated to the Board should establish a ‘Comprehensive Skills Laboratory’ with all the necessary equipment and machinery to effectively implement the recommendations of NEP and NCF-SE.”
The board has advised schools to set up one composite skill laboratory of 600 sq ft area for classes VI-XII, or two separate laboratories of 400 sq ft area, one for classes VI-X and the other for classes XI-XII.
Implementation Timeline:
- A comprehensive skill laboratory with all the necessary equipment and machinery is a mandatory requirement for schools seeking new affiliation from CBSE.
