When diabetes and hypertension strikes together, which they often do, it is called “twin epidemic”.
It is not just about weight, although about 1 out of 4 Indians today suffer from overweight or obesity. The actual risk lies in our daily habits: long, late night biping, irregular food and constant stress. Air pollution is now officially recognized as a risk of heart, and it is recommended to check AQI before your morning walk, like you check the weather.

Medical guidelines are also changing. Patients are now advised to check cholesterol first, and people with family history may benefit from an LP (A) testing, which can reveal hidden genetic risks that can miss standard check-ups. The use of heart drugs has jumped about 50% in recent years, highlighting the scale of the problem.
What can families do to stay preserved
The solutions are straight but require stability. Learn your number, blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol. Walk every day, even if it is just 20 minutes of walking. Eat more home-rose food, reduce salt intake, avoid smoking and practice stress management. Learning CPR is also important, it can save lives at home, office, or even in public places.
Heart disease does not affect just one person, it affects the whole family. While it develops quietly over the years, it can be stopped if everyone takes active steps.
