Hundreds of aspirants seeking school jobs demonstrated in front of ‘Vikas Bhawan’, the headquarters of the West Bengal Education Department, here on Friday, demanding early appointment as despite being successful in the recruitment examination in 2016, they were not appointed due to legal issues. .
That year, more than 23 lakh candidates appeared for the State Level Selection Test (SLST) for more than 25,000 vacancies. While 25,753 appointment letters were issued, the Calcutta High Court had invalidated his appointment in April last year.
The Supreme Court later stayed the order and said it would hear the case.

“Most of the 25,753 candidates had qualified in the SLST 2016 exam. However, they are facing an uncertain future due to legal issues. Days and months have passed. How long will we wait? We want that uncertainty. Finish up and get back to work.” Ujjwal Samant, one of the protesters, told reporters.
Meenakshi Dhara, another candidate, said a small section of the over 25,000 candidates were accused of taking unfair means in the exam, but all are facing an uncertain future.
The protesters, who were marching towards Vikas Bhawan from Karunamoyee Crossing in Salt Lake, were stopped by the police before the building. Six of their representatives were allowed inside to meet senior officials of the school education department.

One of the protesters even shaved his head in public.
A senior official of the school education department said the matter will come up before the Supreme Court again this month.
“We cannot take action as the matter is sub-judice. We will follow the advice and instructions of the judiciary,” the officer said.
Another group of candidates protested in the Esplanade area in the heart of Kolkata, affecting vehicular traffic for some time.
