Kolkata, West Bengal, India – Blenders Pride Fashion Tour concluded this year’s edition with a successful fashion story that broke the molds of fashion craft, as it is known. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the iconic Howrah Bridge and the transformation of the city’s historic Hooghly River into a glittering runway, the final edition presented an experimental collection. Designer Anamika Khanna AK | Okwith charisma Ishaan Khattar as ShowstopperWhich pushed design beyond tradition and took fashion into the next era.
in collaboration with Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), The showcase challenged long-held notions of craftsmanship, treating it not as a static tradition but as a living, evolving force. Anamika Khanna’s AK | OK took apart familiar craft terminology – zardosi, chikankari and mirror work – and reimagined them through futuristic tailoring, metal interventions and cosmic-inspired graphics.
The show debuted on a barge in the middle of the Hooghly River, turning it into a floating theater of fashion. It opened with divers emerging from the barge and bringing the scaffold to life through light, smoke and sound. The models appeared to high-energy scores from within the structure, as reactive lasers moved with each stage, increasing the tension and pace of the show. The narrative, peaked with powerful chainmail, is presented as a unified statement, followed by sculptural silhouettes in motion. The closing ceremony produced a dramatic climax with Ishaan’s arrival in a speedboat, culminating in a mass closing moment in front of the iconic Howrah Bridge.
Adding a touch of gravitas to the evening was The Bengal Paddle Ship, with museum-like interiors and historical details, which hosted the townspeople before being brought on a barge. The Riverine Museum within its former boiler room, which houses rare maritime artefacts and curated installations exploring the heritage of the Hooghly, created an extensive cultural backdrop that complemented the sophistication of the showcase.
