The year 2025 promises to be an exciting year for stargazers, with a variety of astronomical events set to occur. From the Quadrantid meteor shower to a lunar eclipse to a supermoon, here are the astronomical events to watch out for in 2025.

1. Quadrangular Meteor Fall

The first astronomical event of 2025 is today, January 3. The Quadrangle meteor shower will be at its peak on January 3 and 4, the first time of the year to see fireballs in the sky. Reports have indicated that maximum activity will be seen in India on the night of 3 to 4 January. The meteors will probably peak around 11:15 pm IST. Some reports claim that the best time to view the scene is from 5:30 pm on January 3 to 5:24 pm on January 4.

2. Parade of Planets

A parade of planets is a rare astronomical phenomenon where the planets align in a line, similar to a parade. Although it is challenging to see all nine planets at once, there will be two parades of planets in 2025, one in January and the other in March. From January 21, 2025, six planets – Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Uranus, while on March 8, Mercury is also ready to join these planets and make a parade. Reports in India say it can be seen around 8:30 p.m.

3. Four eclipses in 2025

There will be two solar and two lunar eclipses in 2025. Ujjain-based Jiwaji Observatory said only one of these space phenomena will be visible in India. The eclipses will begin with a total lunar eclipse i.e. on March 14 which will be visible in America, Western Europe, Western Africa and the North and South Atlantic Ocean.

Observatory Superintendent Dr. Rajendra Prakash Gupta said that after this, a partial solar eclipse will occur on March 29 and it will be visible in North America, Greenland, Iceland, North Atlantic Ocean, entire Europe and north-western Russia. PTI. However, the total lunar eclipse will occur between September 7 and 8 and will be visible in India as well as many countries in Asia, Europe, Antarctica, the Western Pacific Ocean, Australia and the Indian Ocean region.

The last eclipse of 2025 will be a partial solar eclipse between September 21 and 22 and will be visible in New Zealand, eastern Melanesia, southern Polynesia and West Antarctica.

4. Lyrids Meteor Shower

NASA describes the Lyrids as the oldest known meteor shower, having been observed for 2700 years. Known for their fast and bright meteors, the Lyrids may not be as numerous or bright as the Perseids in August, but according to NASA, they can still surprise viewers with up to 100 meteors per hour. The second meteor shower of the year will be the Lyrids, which will be active between April 16 and 25 but will peak between 4:30 and 5:30 a.m. on April 23.

During those three months the full moon will appear especially big and bright because it will orbit closer to Earth than usual. according to NJ.com, The October 6 supermoon, which will be the first of three consecutive supermoons, will occur at 11:48 p.m. The second one will fall on 6th November. This supermoon will come closest, passing within 221,817 miles (356,980 kilometers), while the third will occur on Dec. 4, the final supermoon of the series, the NJ.com report said.
