Speaking at the 6th convocation of IIIT Guwahati, the Assam Governor said that the enrolment rate of girls in technical educational institutions is lower than in traditional institutions of study.
Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria has urged technical institutes to encourage more female students to enrol in such courses as the number of female students taking admission in such courses is less than that of male students.Speaking at the sixth convocation of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Guwahati on Friday, he said the rate of enrolment of female students in technical educational institutes is less than in traditional studies.
He asked the officials of these institutions to find ways to encourage more and more girls to join technical courses.
Kataria said that girls have demonstrated their potential in every field and providing them proper opportunities would be the right way to empower them.
The Governor appealed to the graduates to make proper use of their expertise and bring about holistic and positive change in the society.
Congratulating the graduating students, he said, “This convocation is a landmark occasion in the academic journey, which bears testimony to a student’s years of hard work, dedication and determination.” Stating that after completing a phase of learning, limitless opportunities await students, he urged them to overcome challenges and contribute meaningfully to the betterment of society.
Highlighting the role of educational institutions in disseminating knowledge and promoting skill development, he said that in the present digital age, information technology is being used in almost every field to enhance the convenience of modern life.
The Governor also said that India has played a leading role in the field of information technology globally.
On this occasion, former Director of IIT-Kharagpur Prof. Partha Pratim Chakraborty, Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIIT-Guwahati Satyabrata Dev and Director of IIIT-Guwahati Prof. Sarat Kumar Patra also spoke.
A Raj Bhavan release said a total of 227 students were conferred graduate and postgraduate degrees on the occasion, including 177 BTech, 41 MTech and 9 PhD.
