- Israeli army took this step after recent intelligence failures
According to The Jerusalem Post, the IDF Intelligence Directorate is implementing extensive improvements in its Arabic language and Islamic cultural studies programs after intelligence failures around October 2023. This Aman is one of the many major initiatives made by Major General Shloomi Binder. Israeli’s Military Intelligence Directorate is called Aman in Hebrew. Under the new instruction of Aman, it will be mandatory for all intelligence personnel to take training of both Arabic or Islamic studies. Which includes people working in technical roles.
What was said in instructions
Now the employees of the intelligence department will be expected to gain efficiency in Arabic language as a part of their basic training. The long -term goal is that future commanders should be fluent in Arabic language and are well aware of Islamic culture. Which will make their analytical abilities very strong. By the end of next year, 100 percent of Aman’s personnel will get training in Islamic studies. 50 percent will be trained in Arabic language.
Plan to create a new department
Army Radio military correspondent Doron Kadosh has shared more information about this on social media. Which includes a plan to establish a new department dedicated to the education of Arabic and Islam. Huti and Iraqi dialects will also include special training in this program. Which reflects the increasing needs of the intelligence department in these areas. As a part of the reforms, IDF will also reopened the Telem. Which previously promoted Arabic and Middle Eastern studies in Israeli middle and high schools. This department was closed six years ago due to budget cuts. As a result, there was a huge decline in the number of people reading Arabic language.
IDF’s long term target
The long -term goal of the IDF is to ensure that every brigade and division level intelligence officer is proficient in Arabic language. They get intensive and practical knowledge of Islam. This training is being included in the main course of Aman’s training program. By next year, 100 percent intelligence soldiers including Unit 8200 cyber experts will get training in Islamic studies. While 50 percent will be given Arabic language education. This Israeli reflects a fundamental cultural change in intelligence education.
What are challenges
A remarkable challenge that emerged in recent years is the difficulty of intelligence personnel in understanding Huti’s communication. According to sources, this problem is also stems from the frequent use of the sote by some huts. Qat is a light intoxicating plant chewed in Yemen and other parts of the Arab world. Its use affects the clarity of speaking. In June, for this reason, Israel’s attempt to assassinate a Huti military chief had allegedly failed.
Instructor will be recruited
Aman Huti and Iraqi are starting new courses focused on Arabic dialects to solve this problem. Their purpose is to make the language analyst familiar with field-specific nuances. Instructor has been recruited from the respective communities to provide authentic training. A senior Aman official said, “So far we have not been as good in the areas of culture, language and Islam. We need to improve these areas. We will not change our intelligence officials and soldiers in the village in the village. But through language and cultural studies, we can create understanding of deep observation in them.”
