Recently in a heart-wrenching incident, a beloved community dog named Jai met a tragic end at the hands of cruelty in Roonwal, Lokhandwala. Actress Aishwarya Sakhuja, herself an animal lover, expresses deep grief and outrage over this incident and tells us, “A tenant in Runwal, Lokhandwala brutally killed this dog named Jai. The community took care of both of them. “What I was doing,” lamented Sakhuja, adding, “From what I know, the community is now behind ousting that man from the society, and animal lovers in Bombay are now standing up against him.”
She adds, “We all need to first learn how to be human and keep the basic sense of humanity. There is a lot of violence happening to the feeders and the animals as well.”
The actor also underlined the importance of holding criminals accountable for their actions and stressed that such acts of cruelty cannot go unnoticed. “The idea is that violence cannot be ignored, the perpetrator must be punished. If we continue to let people go after this, you are only creating trouble for yourself.”
Expressing his disbelief and disappointment, Sakhuja questioned the motives behind such heinous acts of cruelty. “I’m honestly trying to understand what kind of pleasure a sane human being would get from this,” she says. “Someone has to be mentally disturbed to do such an act to an animal. “
Acknowledging people’s concerns about stray animals, Sakhuja emphasizes the importance of co-existence and compassion. “Although I understand that people are afraid of stray dogs, being an animal lover myself, I try to spend time with animals in my community. As long as you are not attacking them and are not a threat to them Till then they won’t do anything to you.”
She concludes, “There are many NGOs working for this purpose, but it is not enough. The law should be implemented in such a way that people fear doing so.”
