In their report, dieticians explain that one remains more active during the day, keeps moving and drinks water. This makes digestion easier without any discomfort. Physical activity during the day increases the flow of oxygen and stimulates the digestive system. However, when you are sleeping, your body is in a passive and completely relaxed state. The metabolism slows down and digestion becomes a challenge. There is a tendency for flatulence, and you remain restless throughout the night. This makes it difficult to sleep, causing you to keep turning from side to side. Due to poor sleep quality, you feel bloated and tired the next day.

Tips to avoid overeating
To avoid such a tiring situation, Cadogan recommends eating balanced and healthy meals throughout the day. When your daytime meals are monotonous and unappetizing, your appetite increases, leading you to overeat at dinner time. Another reason for increased hunger late at night is boredom. Emotional or boredom eating is common and is an easy way to express emotions. Avoid this by keeping yourself busy with leisure activities like reading or painting. Relaxing before bed is a no-brainer. As the day slows down at night, there is a chance of overthinking about the day’s hustle and bustle or life in general. Stress increases sugar cravings. End the day well and sleep well by eating well before bed.
By having a light meal and ensuring you don’t go to bed immediately after, you put your digestive system in a better state. There is no active movement when you sleep, which slows down the digestion process. So after dinner, do your work or take a short walk. When you are conscious about your dinner timing, you will sleep better and wake up refreshed the next day.
