A 19-year-old NEET aspirant allegedly hanged himself in his PG room, the seventh suicide by a coaching student in the city since the beginning of this year, police said on Thursday.
DSP Rajesh Darji told the news agency, Soumya Kurmi committed suicide by hanging herself from the fan late on Wednesday night. PTI, When Kurmi did not open his room, his friends broke the door and found him hanging, police said.
Kurmi, a native of Amethi city in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, had been preparing for the competitive NEET exam from a coaching institute for more than a year, DSP Taylor said, adding that she recently attended this exam in Mahavir Nagar about a month ago. Was transferred to PG.
The DSP said a note has been recovered from the student’s room, but police are yet to confirm its relevance to the suicide.
During investigation, police learned that the woman had some health complications and was admitted to MBS Hospital earlier this week. He was discharged after one day’s treatment.
Jawahar Nagar police station in-charge Kamlesh Kumar Sharma said that after the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the parents on reaching Kota on Thursday afternoon.
A case has been registered based on the complaint of the parents and further investigation is underway, the SHO denied that any suicide note was recovered from his room.
This is the seventh case of suicide by a coaching student in Kota since January. In 2023, 26 suspected suicide cases of coaching students were reported in Kota.
Two days ago, another candidate from Uttar Pradesh Died by suicide in Kota, Rajasthan. Officials said the student has been identified as Uruj, a resident of Samdhan village in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh. The 20-year-old youth was living in Kota since last year where he was preparing for the medical entrance exam from a coaching institute.
The student’s family called him repeatedly on Tuesday, but he did not respond. Subsequently, they called his friends living in Jawahar Nagar area, who reached the building and informed the owner living nearby about the student not picking up his phone.
A guard went to the student’s room and when he did not respond they immediately called the police. The police reached the building and broke the door. Uruj’s body was found hanging from the fan.
Vigyan Nagar police officials said that the student scored average marks in studies.
