Days after the India Bloc’s defeat in the Haryana and Maharashtra assembly elections, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday said they do not want electronic voting machines (EVMs) and demanded the return of ballot papers.
“We don’t want EVMs, we want ballot papers,” PTI quoted Mallikarjun Kharge as saying.
Kharge called for a campaign like Bharat Jodo Yatra for the return of ballot papers and abolition of EVMs.
Kharge made this comment while addressing the Samvidhan Rakshak Abhiyan program at Talkatora Stadium in Delhi.
In the recently held Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) suffered defeat from the BJP-led Mahayuti in what turned out to be a one-sided contest. While the MVA alliance won 46 seats, the Congress won only 16 seats.
Mahayuti registered a massive victory by winning 230 out of 288 seats. BJP got 132 seats, Shiv Sena got 57 seats and NCP got 41 seats.
Meanwhile, Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, and Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, have written to the Chairmen of both the Houses requesting that the Constitution be discussed in both the Houses for two days.
“Time should be allotted for that so that the good things about the Constitution can be discussed and also the wrong things that are happening today can be discussed. Rahul Gandhi ji and I have written the letter, we want to know about the government’s response. Are waiting.” Kharge told PTI.
What did Kharge say?
Claiming that PM Modi is afraid of the caste census, the Congress president said, “Everyone is demanding their share.”
Kharge also told BJP that if they really want unity in the country then they should stop spreading hatred.
