Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin released a video message on Tuesday. Which had a special message. It had mentioned areas which were under the influence of Ukraine and were quite turbulent, later Russia recognized him. In this video message released by Kremlin, President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow is feeling proud by connecting four former Ukrainian areas with Russia. According to Putin, the region is ‘Russia’s ancestral land,’ and the people here decided to join Russia independently and responsibly.
RT News of Moscow explained the essence of Putin’s talk. According to which Putin said, “We have protected our original national interest, shared memory, value, Russian language, traditions, culture and religion. Also, it is our sacred right to respect the achievements of our ancestors.” Russia celebrates ‘Integration Day’ on 30 September. Putin spoke of Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republic, as well as Khern and Japorizia’s association with Russia. Putin proudly said, “What we had to do, and we are proud of it.”
But there is no pride in this story. This step is considered ‘internationally controversial’. Ukraine and Western countries have not legally recognized it. Nevertheless, Russia presents it as its ‘protecting historical and cultural interests’.
There are two important aspects of this story! First cultural and historical engagement-Putin sees it not just geopolitics, but as a respect for Russian culture and traditions. Second controversial international response – Western countries and Ukraine oppose it and Putin ignores it.
After the coup in Kiev in 2014, mainly Russian -speaking areas Donetsk and Lugansk voted for the declaration of independence. The same year Crimea voted to join Russia. Ukraine and most countries refuse to recognize the new boundaries of Russia.
Donbas is a historical, cultural and economic zone located in the southeastern Ukraine, some areas of which have been occupied by separatist groups such as the Donettsk Peoples Republic and Luhansk Peoples Republic since the Russian-Ukrainian war. The word Donbas is a brief name of the word “Donnets Cole Basin”.
In March 2014, after the Euromadon and the 2014 Ukrainian revolution, there was tension in the large areas of Donbas. The unrest was later converted into war by Russian and Russian separatists associated with self-declared Donnetsk and Luhansk Peoples Republic. Both these organizations were recognized by Russia in 2022, but no other country associated with UN recognized it. Russia provides it all kinds of help.
