Cancer can occur at any time or age, although the risk generally increases with age, so it is important to be aware of the risks, whether they are genetic or lifestyle-related. Vulnerable individuals should be aware of the symptoms and signs of cancer so that they can seek early medical intervention.
In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr. Zahid Zahiri, onco-surgeon in Gwalior and member of DocTube, revealed some early warning signs of cancer that you should never ignore –
1. Unexplained Weight Loss:
Sudden weight loss without changes in diet or exercise can be a danger sign for various cancers, including pancreatic, stomach, esophagus, and lung cancer.
2. Constant fatigue:
Chronic fatigue that does not improve even with rest may be a sign of cancer, especially leukemia or cancer affecting the bone marrow.
3. Skin Changes:
Abnormal moles or changes in existing moles, such as size, shape or color, may indicate skin cancer. Other skin changes, such as yellowing (jaundice) or darkening, may also be worrisome.

4. Persistent cough or hoarseness:
A cough or hoarse voice that lasts more than three weeks may be a sign of lung cancer or cancer of the larynx.
5. Vague Pain:
Persistent pain that has no apparent cause, especially in the back, abdomen or joints, may be associated with cancer such as ovarian, pancreatic or bone cancer.
6. Change in bowel or bladder habits:
Chronic constipation, diarrhea, or changes in the shape of your stool may indicate colorectal cancer. Similarly, changes in urination patterns, such as frequent urination or blood in the urine, may indicate bladder or prostate cancer.
7. Difficulty in Swallowing:
Persistent difficulty swallowing may be a sign of cancer affecting the throat or esophagus.

8. Abnormal bleeding or discharge:
Blood in the stool, urine, or unusual vaginal bleeding can be early symptoms of various cancers, including colorectal or cervical cancer.
9. Lump or swelling:
Any new lump or swelling that forms in the breast, testicles, or elsewhere on the body should be examined, as it may be a sign of cancer.
10. Change in appetite:
Loss of appetite or continued difficulty eating can be a warning sign, especially for cancer of the digestive tract.
It is no secret that these abnormalities can occur at any age and are not gender-specific. Regular screening and testing can help detect cancer early, when there is a higher chance of a favorable response to treatment.
